address this coming week. first, the winter wallop in the northeast. let's go straight to the cnn center in atlanta. >> thanks, wolf. i'm brianna keilar at the cnn world headquarters in atlanta, in for don lemon. in a moment, the latest on the l.a. manhunt for a suspected cop killer. first, the story we've been covering all day, the blizzard in the northeast. we go to ashleigh banfield in fairfield, connecticut. how are things there? >> as the day turned into night, the temperatures are plummeting. and what started as a big snowfall story has become a snow on the ground story. the plows are still out all over this state and all over the northeast. trying to keep up with the mess that was left behind. this gas station behind me, it is dead. it is empty. not because they're out of gas, they're out of employees. no one could get here to reopen it. not only that, but the actual gas pumps just started getting too cold and wouldn't work. above this gas station is i-95 and it is chock a block like a parking lot. the problem is, even though the travel ban was lifted in connecticut today, the gov

others. he's still at large and police say he has access to multiple weapons and assault rifles. cnn's kyung lah is joining us from los angeles where the police chief is calling it extremely worry some and scare ree. what's the latest kyung? >> reporter: certainly scary for anyone connected to the police department in southern california. this is where today's shooting spree began but all of this, wolf, began earlier this week. the murder spree began on sunday with the double killing of a newly engaged couple, monica quan and keith lawrence, quan, the daughter of a retired lapd captain, the officer who represented christopher dorner in front of the police board that eventually fired him. dorner refers to quan's murder in his man guess stow. he writes, i never had the opportunity to have a family of my own. i'm terminating yours. self-preservation is no longer important to me. i do not fear death as i died long ago on january 2nd of '09, a date a few month after dorner was fired as a police officer. the lapd fanned out, launching 40 protection details throughout southern california. >

learned today that dorner sent me a package to my office here in cnn in new york. the package arrived on february 1st. i receive a lot of strange packages and letters and we have a system in place for dealing with them. i did not personally see this package or know about it until today. the package contained a dvd and a bullet-riddled keepsake coin called the challenge coin. it's nomhis former boss, william bradden, who joins me shortly to talk about it. that coin had three bullet holes in the center, as you can see. and one partial hole on its edge, on the upper right-hand corner of the coin. we're going to show you more of the contents of that package in a moment. in addition, we're going to talk to a veteran crime reporter about ways of stopping a revenge killer, and chris lawrence on the type of sniper training the suspect has. but we begin with randi kaye. >> we're under attack. that was the word from one california police lieutenant after at least three officers were shot early thursday morning. one officer died. police say the shooter is this man, 33-year-old christopher jordan

is falling, at least it has, pretty fast in parts of north carolina. cnn weather center meteorologist samantha moore with me right now. so talk to us about the folks in new england. give them a head's up. >> yeah. we have some advisories and watches and warnings to share with them. more winter weather working its way in as this work its way up the coast a. winter storm warning for the cape. we could could easily see 5 to 9 inches of snowfall there, and it's going tonight winds that are causing the trouble. once again blowing the snow sideways and making for blizzard conditions. meaning visibility less than a quarter mile across much of maine toe bangor, calais, houlton, all included in that blizzard warning with gusty wind that are really going to be blowing. look at it throughout the afternoon and evening, a peak of 50 miles per hour in the boston area. i know you cleaned up after last weekend, but now you'll have to deal with more blowing snow, and the winds are going to continue to be strong throughout tomorrow morning as well, around 41 miles per hour in boston and 36 miles per ho
